Discussion with curators and artists, Ivanna Bergese, Julio Lamilla, Liz Munsell and Anabel Vazquez following the screening. Special music performance before the show. Presented with Cinema Tropical and the MassArt Film Society.

VideoSur is a selection of experimental video that includes documentation of performance and art actions, noise video and stop motion animations from Argentina, Brazil and Chile. This is the New York VideoSur premier of works selected from their two-part series screened at MassArt Film Society in Boston, 2009. Inspired by the spirit of exchange in the Americas, VideoSur conveys the complex cultural vision of Latin American artists working both in Latin America and as part of its diasporas.

Previous screenings have taken place at the MassArt Film Society in Boston, hosted by the filmmaker and professor Saul Levine.

The MassArt Film Society has been featuring experimental cinema at the Massachusetts College of Art & Design for over thirty years, bringing the foremost avant-garde cinema to Boston audiences. The VideoSur series has been co-curated by Anabel Vázquez, Julio Lamilla, Liz Munsell and Ivanna Bergese of Discordiafilms.

VideoSur at UnionDocs will be accompanied by a 30-minute sound and video presentation by Ni Nada, a duo composed of ni and VELA. Ni Nada will present an improvisational sound ensemble performed over a fixed landspace in video that will be manipulated in real time. The piece denominated “Contemplación alterada” will be executed by using multiple analog and electronic instruments, including prepared charango, contact microphones, objects and samplers.
