Life Stories curator Chen Tamir will be present for a discussion following the screening.

Chen Tamir is an independent curator and arts writer based in New York, Toronto, and Tel-Aviv. She is also the Executive Director of Flux Factory, a non-profit arts center in Queens, NY. Chen holds an M.A. from Bard College’s Center for Curatorial Studies, a B.A. in Anthropology, and a B.F.A. in Visual Art from York University.

Chen will discuss her work as a curator of experimental documentary video work in a gallery setting. She will screen works by Meiro Koizumi, Tova Mozard, Maayan Amir and Ruti Sela, Avi Mograbi, and Yossi and Itamar — artists who use video to document the hardships of life during political or military distress and the difficulties of formulating one’s identity in the modern world.

Her primary interests are video works, interventions, and interactive or social art. She has recently curated the “Mobile Archive” at Art in General, “Life Stories” at Gallery TPW, and “Stutter and Twitch” at the Barnicke Gallery at the University of Toronto. Other exhibitions include the National Gallery of Saskatchewan, White Box, and the Israeli Center for Digital Art. Her writing has been published in Flash Art, C Magazine, Ciel Variable, BlackFlash, and various monographs.
