Film Sprout April Distribution Workshop

March 17th, 2010 by UnionDocs

FROM THE GROUND UP:
BUILDING GRASSROOTS DISTRIBUTION FOR YOUR INDEPENDENT FILM

When: Sunday, April 11, 2010, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Where: Common Spaces Co-op, 33 Flatbush Avenue, Fifth Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11217
Workshop fee: $150

In this intensive afternoon workshop, Film Sprout founder Caitlin Boyle leads filmmakers through the strategic and practical steps necessary for rallying a motivated, grassroots audience around your independent film. In the first half of the workshop, participants will learn how successful community-oriented screening and outreach campaigns can build viewership and attract revenue while encouraging targeted grassroots activism in support of a film’s message. Through detailed case studies, we’ll introduce a range of grassroots distribution approaches, while alerting filmmakers to common outreach pitfalls, budgeting mistakes, and logistical obstacles. In the second half of the workshop, participants will present their own audience outreach and grassroots distribution plans and receive targeted feedback from their peers. An intimate panel of veteran filmmakers, outreach coordinators, and film programmers will join the workshop to offer constructive guidance and advice to help refine participants’ distribution goals. Fifteen workshop spots are available.
