Evoking the Mulatto event on Sept. 14

We are constantly fighting for the right to determine our own bodies and space. In this context, identity is two-fold – how we view ourselves and how others view us, both of which are informed by the racialized and sexualized violence of our past.

Evoking the Mulatto is a multiplatform narrative and visual art project examining black mixed identity in the 21st century, through the lens of the history of racial classification in the United States. Created by Lindsay C. Harris, the project encompasses video portraits, multimedia content and still photography to narrate the documentary project.

Come out to UnionDocs on Friday, September 14 for the first episode of the online videos that will be launching here from 6 to 9pm. The first screening will begin 7pm followed by a short Q&A discussion. This is an opportunity to learn more about the project from its creator and collaborators, as well as discuss its relevance in contemporary society.

This event is open to the public.
