April 12th – FLAHERTY NYC: Our Disappeared at Anthology Film Archives

April 7th, 2010 by UnionDocs

Check out this month’s Flaherty NYC screening, Monday, April 12th at Anthology Film Archives.

For the April installment of the Flaherty NYC monthly screening series, The Flaherty will present Our Disappeared by Juan Mandelbaum. There will be a post-screening discussion with Felix Endara, programmer for DocuClub.

Our Disappeared
(Juan Mandelbaum, 2008, 99min, USA/Argentina)

Through a casual Google search director Juan Mandelbaum finds out that Patricia, a long lost girlfriend from Argentina, is among the thousands who were kidnapped, tortured and then “disappeared” by the military during the 1976-1983 dictatorship. Juan embarks on a journey to find out what happened to her and others he knew who disappeared and re-examines his own choices. Using rare archival footage he evokes the dreams for a revolution that would transform Argentina. As he shares dramatic stories told by parents, siblings, friends and children of the disappeared, Juan grieves the tragic losses and shows that when brutal regimes attack the fabric of a country with great impunity, the suffering lasts for generations.

Anthology Film Archives is located in the old Second Avenue Courthouse building in the East Village at 32 Second Ave. at the corner of 2nd Street. General admission tickets to the Flaherty NYC series are $9. Tickets are $7 for IFP members, NALIP members, and students with valid I.D., and $6 for Anthology members. Tickets can be purchased at the Anthology box office the day of the show. For more information, call the Flaherty at 212-448-0457.
