AMERICAN MAYOR, 2008, 75 minutes, USA, video. Directed by Travis Irvine, present for a discussion following the screening. Come share feedback.
Join us Sunday November 1st, at 7:30 pm for a FREE work-in-progress screening of American Mayor, a feature documentary film about a 24-year-old filmmaker turned politician attempting to become mayor of his hometown. However, to achieve this, he has two obstacles: (1) seven other people want the job and (2) he doesn’t know anything about being mayor of his hometown. Afterwords we will have a critical discussion of the documentary. Beverages and snacks will be provided, please RSVP to: bodega@uniondocs.org
American Mayor presents an entertaining look into the local election process while intrinsically combining an inspiring story of political motivation. Young people will learn how to run for office, older people will see what young candidates can bring to the process, and all people will be inspired to believe in American democracy at the local level again – where one man can truly make a difference.
Sometimes you just gotta run for mayor.
